• Beltana Progress Association

Advancing and protecting the interests of the Beltana community and Beltana’s rich heritage and cultural importance.

The Beltana Progress Association Inc strives to enhance and maintain Beltana’s rich heritage and cultural importance.  The historic Beltana township, a semi ghost town 540km north of Adelaide, is one of only two heritage towns in South Australia. It was declared a state heritage area in 1987.

Beltana is historically important for its links with the Overland Telegraph, the Transcontinental Railway, mining, outback services and the Australian Inland Mission. The town was also an important hub for camel-based transport during the 19th century. People of Aboriginal, Afghan and European descents all regard Beltana as an important place in their cultural heritage.
